Happy New Year

Optimism abounds at the beginning of another school year.  I am starting this blog in the hopes of it becoming a useful educational tool for all my math students.  Here we can discuss assignments, share ideas, with the goal of becoming better math students & teachers.

To get started, we're going to take a look at the concept of infinity.  What does it mean for something to be infinite?  Are all infinities the same size?  How could you possibly measure something that is infinite?

    Here's my answer to the "dig deeper" question:
    You can easily systematically match the set of positive whole numbers to the set of all even numbers. Here's an easy way to:

    1 : 0
    2 : 2
    3 : -2
    4 : 4
    5 : -4
    6 : 6
    7 : -6
    ect...

Although at first I didn't understand the question, now that I do I challenge Jason's answer by pointing out that the question states to match the set of positive whole numbers to the set of "all even numbers (positive, negative and zero)." Would that not also include numbers such as 1/2, 1/4, -1/2, and etc? Those numbers are technically even also.

  5. To match the set of positive whole numbers to the set of all even numbers (positive, negative and zero), you must simply keep the postive even numbers (and zero) as are while multipling the odd whole numbers by negative two.

    Etc...
    Even numbers win.
